A groundbreaking preclinical study from Texas A&M University reveals that a novel nasal spray formulation improved cognitive function for months following only two doses. The treatment targets brain inflammation through direct olfactory delivery, bypassing traditional systemic barriers to achieve enhanced brain tissue penetration. Brain imaging analyses demonstrated significant reductions in inflammatory markers and improvements in metabolic function compared to control subjects. Notably, the cognitive benefits persisted well beyond the brief treatment period, with researchers observing sustained enhancements in memory formation and retention. The mechanism focuses on restoring cellular energy production in memory-critical brain regions, addressing fundamental processes underlying age-related cognitive decline.
