New research reveals three critical clinical insights for managing menopausal symptoms. First, surgical menopause consistently produces more severe genitourinary syndrome compared to natural menopause due to abrupt hormonal changes. Second, this distinction necessitates different treatment approaches—a one-size-fits-all strategy may prove inadequate for surgical menopause patients. Third, healthcare providers should modify their management protocols based on menopause type to optimize patient outcomes. These findings have immediate practical implications for gynecologists, urologists, and primary care physicians. Before recommending bilateral oophorectomy, physicians should thoroughly discuss potential genitourinary symptoms with patients and establish clear post-operative management plans. For women already experiencing surgical menopause, recognition of its heightened symptom severity justifies more aggressive therapeutic interventions to improve quality of life.
