GSK’s bepirovirsen represents a significant advancement in hepatitis B treatment, with three critical takeaways for clinicians and patients. First, the functional cure rate of 18% substantially exceeds the 1% achievement rate of current therapies, offering hope for better long-term outcomes. Second, the drug employs antisense RNA technology—a novel mechanism that directly targets viral RNA and prevents replication, contrasting sharply with conventional nucleoside analogues that suppress without eliminating the virus.
