The UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has granted marketing authorisation to 47 new medicines in 2026, representing a 12% increase from the previous year and reflecting accelerated progress in addressing unmet clinical needs. Neurological conditions dominated the approval landscape, with 15 new treatments receiving authorisation, including two monoclonal antibodies targeting amyloid plaques in Alzheimer’s disease. The approvals also encompassed 11 oncology treatments, 8 rare disease therapies, and 6 cardiovascular medicines. This expansion of therapeutic options reflects the MHRA’s enhanced assessment capabilities and commitment to bringing innovative treatments to patients more rapidly. Dr. June Raine, MHRA Chief Executive, emphasised the agency’s role in addressing significant medical gaps through streamlined regulatory pathways and digital assessment tools.
