Drug & supplement interactions

Drug-drug and drug-supplement interactions

500+ medications · 120+ supplements · Evidence-referenced

Methodology & sources

Interaction engine: Class-based pharmacological mapping. Each medication and supplement is assigned to one or more pharmacological classes (e.g., CYP3A4 substrate, serotonergic, antiplatelet). Interactions are defined between classes, not individual drugs, following the methodology used in Stockley's Drug Interactions and the BNF.

Severity grading (aligned with Stockley's classification):

  • Major: Potentially life-threatening or permanently damaging. Generally contraindicated.
  • Moderate: May worsen patient condition. Requires monitoring, dose adjustment, or alternative selection.
  • Minor: Limited clinical significance. Awareness recommended.

Evidence levels:

  • Established: Confirmed by clinical studies or systematic reviews
  • Probable: Supported by case reports and pharmacological mechanism
  • Theoretical: Predicted from known pharmacology, limited clinical data

Primary sources:

  • British National Formulary (BNF) Interactions, NICE, 2024

Limitations: This tool covers common clinically significant interactions. It does not include all possible interactions, food-drug interactions beyond key examples, or dose-dependent effects. Individual patient factors (age, renal/hepatic function, genetics) affect interaction severity. This tool is for educational purposes and does not replace clinical judgment.
