Large-Scale Study Links Coffee Consumption to Significant Cancer Risk Reduction

A comprehensive analysis of 20 prospective cohort studies reveals that coffee consumption is associated with substantially lower cancer incidence across multiple malignancy types. Heavy coffee drinkers demonstrated approximately 50% reduction in liver cancer rates, while colorectal cancer survival improved by 22% overall and 43% in Stage III patients. Notably, the protective effect appears independent of caffeine content—decaffeinated coffee showed similar benefits, pointing to polyphenols and chlorogenic acid as the active protective compounds. These findings represent moderate-level evidence across diverse populations, with consistent dose-response relationships observed. The data encompassed over 1.5 million women in endometrial cancer analyses and thousands of colorectal cancer patients. Researchers are advancing the evidence base further, with a Phase 1/2 clinical trial launching at Massachusetts General Hospital in 2027 to test causation and mechanism in colorectal cancer patients.
