Scrub typhus represents a major infectious disease burden globally, with over 1 million estimated cases annually and a case fatality rate of 1–2% if left untreated. Early diagnostic intervention is therefore critical to reducing morbidity and mortality in endemic regions. A new systematic review and meta-analysis published in Tropical Medicine & International Health has synthesised evidence on the diagnostic accuracy of serological tests for scrub typhus across India, quantifying the performance of antibody-based detection methods widely used in resource-limited settings. The pooled analysis provides clinicians and public health authorities with evidence-based performance metrics to guide interpretation of test results and improve diagnostic confidence. Serological testing remains the primary diagnostic modality available in endemic areas, where it offers superior accessibility and cost-effectiveness compared to molecular or culture-based methods.
