The MTHFR gene dominates wellness conversations, yet clinical evidence points in an unexpected direction. While consumer markets promote methylfolate supplementation, rigorous randomized controlled trials from Ulster University demonstrate that riboflavin—plain vitamin B2—may hold genuine therapeutic value for a specific population: carriers of the C677T TT variant, present in roughly 10% of European and American populations.

In hypertensive patients with this genotype, 1.6 mg daily riboflavin for 16 weeks produced a clinically meaningful 13 mmHg reduction in systolic blood pressure. Critically, this effect was entirely genotype-specific; CC and CT carriers showed no response, exemplifying true precision medicine.
