A major clinical milestone has been reached in CAR-T cell therapy development: 85% of systemic lupus erythematosus patients achieved sustained clinical remission following treatment, with 78% demonstrating complete elimination of pathogenic autoantibodies at 12-month follow-up. These findings, reported in Nature Medicine, represent a significant advancement in autoimmune disease management.
The remission durability extends beyond the initial treatment phase, with patients maintaining clinical benefit for 12-24 months after a single therapy cycle. This sustained response contrasts sharply with traditional immunosuppressive treatments requiring ongoing medication adjustments. The data also demonstrates efficacy across additional autoimmune conditions, including multiple sclerosis (72% remission), rheumatoid arthritis (68%), and myasthenia gravis (61%), indicating broad therapeutic potential.
