Chikungunya causes debilitating symptoms including severe joint pain that can persist for months, high fever, and distinctive skin manifestations. The World Health Organization classifies it as a neglected tropical disease, but climate projections suggest this designation may soon become inadequate. Health systems in temperate regions are largely unprepared for chikungunya surveillance and control, raising urgent questions about preparedness infrastructure and vector management strategies.
