A striking disparity exists between what pathologists observe and what clinicians can detect in multiple sclerosis cortical imaging. Conventional clinical MRI protocols detect only approximately 25 percent of cortical MS lesions, leaving the majority of pathology invisible to standard radiological assessment. AI-enhanced analysis dramatically improves this detection rate to approximately 85 percent—a substantial leap that approaches the 95 percent detection achieved through neuropathological assessment, considered the gold standard.
This substantial improvement in detection capability has profound implications for patient care. The gap between conventional imaging and pathological reality has long created diagnostic blind spots that compromise clinical decision-making. By leveraging artificial intelligence to extract previously undetectable information from existing MRI data, clinicians now have access to imaging insights previously unavailable through traditional methods.
