🚨 Breaking Newsvia UN News Health

The World Health Organization has launched an urgent coordinated response to an expanding Ebola outbreak in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo that has already crossed into neighbouring Uganda. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus issued a statement of solidarity on Saturday as health teams work to contain the rapidly evolving emergency across multiple provinces.

The outbreak has demonstrated significant geographic spread, affecting communities across eastern DRC with confirmed cases now detected in Uganda. Community engagement and trust in local populations are identified as critical factors in controlling transmission and preventing further regional expansion of the virus.

Health authorities are intensifying containment efforts and deploying rapid response teams to affected areas. The WHO has committed full institutional support to bolster local health systems and coordinate international resources. This is a developing story.
