The United Nations Children’s Fund has appointed Barcelona footballer Lamine Yamal as its newest Goodwill Ambassador, marking a significant milestone in youth engagement for global health advocacy. At 17 years old, Yamal becomes one of the youngest sports figures to assume this prestigious role, positioning him to champion children’s rights and health initiatives on an international platform.

Yamal’s appointment reflects UNICEF’s strategic pivot toward leveraging influential youth voices to address critical gaps in child healthcare access and disease prevention. As Spain’s youngest-ever international player, Yamal possesses a unique platform to reach digitally-native audiences who may not engage with conventional public health messaging. His advocacy will focus on promoting vaccination coverage, mental health support, and nutrition security for vulnerable child populations globally.

This appointment underscores UNICEF’s commitment to collaborative approaches in addressing the 356 million children worldwide who currently lack access to essential health services across 190+ countries.
