A multidisciplinary international expert panel has published comprehensive recommendations to standardize intestinal ultrasound monitoring for Crohn’s disease patients following surgery. Published in The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology, these guidelines represent a significant advancement in post-operative care protocols for inflammatory bowel disease.

The recommendations, developed by gastroenterologists, radiologists, and IBD specialists, establish specific criteria for ultrasound assessment timing, technique, and interpretation during the postoperative period. By providing standardized imaging protocols, the guidelines aim to improve consistency in clinical practice across healthcare centers worldwide.

This development addresses a critical gap in current post-surgical surveillance, where practices vary significantly between institutions. The standardized approach is expected to enhance early detection of disease recurrence while offering patients a less invasive monitoring alternative to traditional endoscopic procedures.
