Colorado health officials and state lawmakers have established a coalition dedicated to maintaining and strengthening childhood vaccination programs, signaling a proactive response to uncertainty surrounding federal immunization policies. The initiative brings together pediatricians, public health experts, and bipartisan legislators committed to independent advocacy for vaccination coverage.

The coalition’s formation reflects growing recognition that state-level leadership may be essential to sustaining immunization programs amid potential changes to federal guidance structures. Colorado’s current childhood vaccination coverage stands at 89% for the 2023-2024 school year—below the 95% threshold recommended by the CDC for maintaining community immunity against measles and other preventable diseases.

Dr. Sarah Johnson, Colorado’s state epidemiologist, emphasized the state’s commitment to bolstering vaccination rates through local coordination and sustained public health efforts. The bipartisan nature of the coalition underscores that immunization protection transcends political divisions, uniting diverse stakeholders around a shared public health priority.
