A significant disconnect exists between diversity achievements in medical school enrollment and actual representation in the practicing physician workforce, according to new analysis. Despite substantial increases in underrepresented minority medical school enrollments, residency programs demonstrate concerning disparities in training completion rates.

This gap points to systemic barriers within graduate medical education that warrant urgent investigation. These findings underscore the need for targeted interventions in residency training to ensure that diversity investments made at the medical school level translate into lasting change in the physician workforce composition.
