🚨 Breaking Newsvia STAT News

Health authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo have confirmed 1,003 cases of Ebola virus disease in the eastern region, with 254 deaths reported as of June 22, 2026. The outbreak continues to spread despite containment efforts, with contact tracing emerging as a critical challenge in the affected areas.

The scale of the outbreak underscores the severity of the situation. Health officials report significant difficulties in identifying and monitoring individuals who have had contact with confirmed patients, hampering efforts to prevent further transmission and control disease spread within vulnerable populations in the region.

Authorities are intensifying response measures, including epidemiological investigation and contact tracing operations, though ongoing civil unrest in eastern Congo is impeding access to affected communities and complicating disease surveillance activities. International health organizations continue to monitor the situation closely. This is a developing story.
