Unlike LASIK surgery, which permanently removes corneal tissue through laser ablation, this emerging technique preserves the eye’s natural structure while achieving comparable visual outcomes. Early laboratory studies on animal models have demonstrated the approach’s feasibility, with successful myopia correction achieved in approximately one minute. The reversible nature of the corneal softening process addresses a longstanding patient concern regarding the permanence of traditional refractive surgery.
