The supplement industry has successfully marketed distinct magnesium chemical forms as targeted solutions for specific health concerns—magnesium threonate for cognitive function, glycinate for sleep quality, and taurate for cardiovascular support. However, a new analysis by Georgian Medical Journal reveals that these organ-specific claims lack substantial human clinical evidence. According to Dr. William Wallace, a biochemist examining supplement formulation claims, most marketing narratives derive from in vitro or animal studies rather than robust human bioavailability data. The analysis identified zero large-scale human randomized trials directly comparing magnesium forms for organ-specific outcomes. While evidence exists supporting general magnesium supplementation benefits, clinicians should counsel patients that the premium pricing and targeted formulation marketing strategies lack the human clinical validation manufacturers suggest.
