Smartphone applications and wearable fitness devices are demonstrably transforming the landscape of cardiovascular disease management, according to a comprehensive meta-analysis published in the Journal of the American Heart Association. The analysis aggregated data from multiple randomised and quasi-randomised controlled trials to quantify the impact of digital health interventions on physical activity adherence among cardiac patients.

The findings underscore the potential of digital monitoring and real-time feedback systems to enhance motivation and accountability in populations at high risk of recurrent cardiac events. By integrating these tools into established cardiac rehabilitation programmes, clinicians can strengthen implementation of evidence-based secondary prevention guidelines. The research suggests that digital health platforms complement traditional rehabilitation approaches, offering objective activity tracking and personalised engagement strategies that support sustained behaviour change in heart disease patients.
