For public health practitioners and healthcare administrators, a critical validation has emerged: serological surveys and mathematical models produce aligned estimates of COVID-19 infection burden, meaning institutions can confidently use both approaches together. This dual-methodology strategy offers three critical advantages for pandemic response planning.

First, independent convergence of results strengthens confidence in burden estimates, reducing decision-making uncertainty. Second, using both methods together provides comprehensive disease tracking that captures different dimensions of pandemic impact. Third, this validated approach extends beyond COVID-19, establishing a robust framework for assessing infection burden during future infectious disease emergencies. Healthcare leaders should integrate these complementary tools into their surveillance programs to enhance data quality and support evidence-based policy decisions that protect population health.
