🚨 Breaking Newsvia Signal Intelligence

The World Health Organization has declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern following confirmed cross-border transmission of Ebola from the Democratic Republic of Congo into Uganda on or before 31 May 2026. The declaration reflects rapid epidemiological assessment indicating significant outbreak escalation and international spread potential.

Intelligence reports indicate 15 high-confidence signals consistently documenting cross-border transmission, with preliminary indications of a rare Ebola strain under investigation. A concurrent displacement crisis in the affected border region is complicating containment efforts by limiting healthcare access and surveillance capacity in vulnerable populations.

WHO and regional health authorities are mobilizing coordinated response measures. Critical information including confirmed case numbers, mortality data, strain identification, geographic extent of transmission in Uganda, and current containment status remains under assessment. Healthcare systems in both countries are being mobilized for case management and vaccination deployment. This is a developing story.
