The World Health Organization has declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) following an Ebola outbreak in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo that has crossed into Uganda. As of May 31, 2026, the outbreak has resulted in approximately 900 confirmed cases, with transmission documented on both sides of the DRC-Uganda border.
