ებოლას დაავადება არის მწვავე ვირუსული ინფექცია, რომელიც იწვევს მძიმე ჰემორაგიულ ცხელებას და მაღალი სიკვდილიანობით ხასიათდება [1]. იგი გადადის ინფიცირებული ადამიანის ან ცხოველის სითხეებით [2].

ებოლას ვირუსი პირველად 1976 წელს აღმოაჩინეს აფრიკაში, მდინარე ებოლას მახლობლად, საიდანაც მიიღო სახელწოდება [1]. ვირუსი ძირითადად ვრცელდება ინფიცირებული ადამიანის ან ცხოველის სითხეებით, როგორიცაა სისხლი, ოფლი ან ნერწყვი [2]. დაავადება იწყება გრიპის მსგავსი სიმპტომებით, როგორიცაა ცხელება და სისუსტე, მაგრამ სწრაფად ვითარდება მძიმე ჰემორაგიული ცხელების ფორმაში [3]. ხშირად გავრცელებული მცდარი წარმოდგენა ის არის, რომ ვირუსი ჰაერით ვრცელდება, თუმცა ეს ასე არ არის. მისი გავრცელების შეჩერება შესაძლებელია ინფიცირებულებთან კონტაქტის შეზღუდვით და შესაბამისი ჰიგიენის დაცვით.
