ერადიკაცია არის პროცესი, რომლის შედეგადაც დაავადება სრულად ქრება და მისი გადაცემა აღარ ხდება.[1]

Eradication is the process by which a disease is completely eliminated and no longer transmitted.

ერადიკაცია ნიშნავს, რომ დაავადება აღარ არსებობს და აღარავის შეუძლია მისი გადაცემა. ეს არის საბოლოო მიზანი, როცა დაავადებას ვებრძვით.

ერადიკაციის ცნება პირველად მე-20 საუკუნეში გაჩნდა, როცა მეცნიერებმა დაიწყეს მუშაობა ინფექციური დაავადებების სრულად აღმოფხვრაზე. მისი მიღწევა რთულია და მოითხოვს გლობალურ თანამშრომლობას, რადგან დაავადების გადაცემა უნდა შეწყდეს ყველგან.[1] ერადიკაციის პროცესში მნიშვნელოვანია ვაქცინაციის პროგრამები და დაავადების გავრცელების მონიტორინგი.[2] ხშირად ადამიანები ფიქრობენ, რომ ერადიკაცია იგივეა, რაც დაავადების კონტროლი, მაგრამ ეს არასწორია. კონტროლი ნიშნავს, რომ დაავადება ჯერ კიდევ არსებობს, მაგრამ მისი გავრცელება შეზღუდულია.[3] ერადიკაცია კი ნიშნავს, რომ დაავადება აღარ არსებობს და მისი გადაცემა აღარ ხდება.[4]
