A significant advancement in acute myeloid leukemia treatment is offering new hope for older patients seeking alternatives to intensive hospital-based care. The ASCERTAIN V clinical trial, conducted at leading US cancer centers including Weill Cornell Medicine, NewYork-Presbyterian, Yale University, and MD Anderson Cancer Center, demonstrates that an all-oral drug combination can deliver therapeutic outcomes comparable to standard intravenous treatments.

The two-pill regimen combines decitabine-cedazuridine with venetoclax, allowing patients to receive treatment in the comfort of their homes rather than requiring monthly hospital visits. This approach addresses a critical challenge for elderly AML patients who often experience mobility limitations or geographic barriers to accessing treatment facilities. By eliminating the need for repeated intravenous administration, the oral therapy substantially reduces treatment burden while maintaining clinical effectiveness, potentially improving quality of life for vulnerable patient populations.
