Groundbreaking research from Middlesex University has demonstrated that laughter therapy produces measurable improvements in children’s brain resilience and emotional regulation. Dr. Jacqueline Harding, director of Tomorrow’s Child and early childhood expert at Middlesex University, has identified specific neurological pathways activated by humor-based interventions that enhance brain plasticity and cognitive flexibility.

The research shows that laughter activates the parasympathetic nervous system, creating optimal conditions for learning and emotional development. These findings suggest that humor-based therapeutic approaches may be particularly valuable in pediatric clinical settings, where traditional interventions are being complemented by evidence-based laughter therapy.
