Among the most significant findings from a comprehensive UK diabetes study is the quantifiable weight loss advantage associated with weekly semaglutide compared to dulaglutide. Over a 12-month period, patients treated with semaglutide achieved an additional 2.06 kg of weight reduction—a clinically meaningful difference that, when combined with other metabolic benefits, contributes substantially to overall disease management and cardiovascular health outcomes.
Beyond weight loss, the study documented that semaglutide users also achieved 0.20% greater HbA1c reduction, indicating superior blood sugar control. These findings emerged from analysis of 6,103 adults in UK primary care, with 3,227 receiving semaglutide and 2,876 receiving dulaglutide between 2018 and 2022.
Both medications demonstrated comparable safety profiles, suggesting that the metabolic advantages of semaglutide were achieved without increased adverse event burden. This data supports clinicians in making evidence-based treatment selections for their patients with type 2 diabetes.
