Over 37 million Americans currently have diabetes, with approximately 90-95% diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, according to CDC data. This significant disease burden has prompted researchers at HonorHealth Research Institute to investigate innovative treatment approaches beyond conventional management strategies.

A new 12-week clinical trial is now testing steam therapy—controlled heat exposure designed to improve insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism. The research builds on preliminary evidence suggesting that thermal stress may activate cellular mechanisms beneficial for glucose regulation. Study participants undergo medically supervised sessions with continuous monitoring of vital signs and glucose levels.

The trial represents an important exploration of thermal medicine’s potential role in metabolic health. As current treatments—including lifestyle modifications, oral medications, and insulin therapy—leave many patients struggling to achieve optimal control, novel approaches like this heat-based intervention may offer additional therapeutic options for the millions of Americans affected by type 2 diabetes.
