A comprehensive analysis reveals that more than 70% of researchers have attempted and failed to reproduce another scientist’s experiments, underscoring the scale of the reproducibility challenge facing modern science. The crisis disproportionately affects certain disciplines, with psychology experiencing the highest replication failure rate at 85%, followed by medicine at 75% and biology at 68%. Even physics, traditionally considered more reproducible, shows a 45% failure rate. These findings from Nature surveys spanning 2016-2024 extend beyond isolated incidents; over half of researchers have also failed to reproduce their own previous work. Such widespread reproducibility failures waste institutional resources and pose potential clinical risks when findings are translated to patient care.
