A striking new finding from circadian biology research quantifies alcohol’s effect on nocturnal recovery: moderate alcohol consumption reduces growth hormone secretion by 75% in a single night. This substantial suppression occurs alongside significant sleep fragmentation in the second half of sleep, when the body normally consolidates restorative processes.

Dr. William Wallace’s research demonstrates that these physiological disruptions are objective and measurable, occurring independent of subjective sleep satisfaction.
