The brain controls inflammation through an electrical circuit called the inflammatory reflex, mediated by the vagus nerve. The brain talks directly to the immune system through the vagus nerve, triggering an 'inflammatory reflex' that can reduce inflammation without drugs. Clinical trials in rheumatoid arthritis patients using implanted vagus nerve stimulators showed reduced TNF-α and pain relief. Deep breathing and meditation can activate this circuit naturally.
