The XPRIZE Healthspan competition has mobilized the world’s largest research initiative focused on reversing age-related decline. With $101 million in prize funding distributed across 2024-2030, the competition targets three critical areas: cognitive function, muscle strength, and immune system performance. Dr. Jamie Justice, scientific director at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, oversees competing teams working to demonstrate measurable functional improvements in older adults. The competition structure includes milestone prizes for incremental breakthroughs and grand prizes for transformative results. Research teams from major institutions worldwide are exploring diverse approaches, from pharmaceutical interventions to lifestyle modifications. Dr. Justice emphasized that the most promising strategies combine multiple modalities rather than single interventions. Importantly, while highlighting legitimate research progress, Justice cautioned the public against unproven anti-aging treatments lacking scientific validation.
