The UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has released comprehensive consumer guidance designed to improve identification and reporting of suspected adverse effects from e-cigarette use. As vaping products continue to proliferate across Europe, the regulatory framework addresses a critical gap in long-term safety monitoring.
The guidance outlines a standardised approach for consumers to recognise potential safety concerns, including respiratory symptoms such as cough and shortness of breath, oral and throat irritation, and cardiovascular effects including palpitations. Through the MHRA’s Yellow Card scheme, users can formally report suspected side effects, enabling regulators to track emerging safety signals.
This initiative underscores the importance of pharmacovigilance in markets where comprehensive long-term safety data remains limited. Consumer reporting strengthens regulatory oversight and helps protect public health during the continued expansion of e-cigarette use.
