🚨 Breaking Newsvia Nigeria NAFDAC

The Niger Republic’s Ministry of Trade and Industry has imposed an immediate import ban on Bulmex Parboiled Rice originating from India, according to a public alert issued by Nigeria’s National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). The action follows an investigation conducted by the Agadez Regional Directorate of Commerce that identified metallic contamination in the product.

NAFDAC has formally notified stakeholders of the ban to prevent potentially contaminated rice from entering regional supply chains. Metallic contamination in food products poses serious health risks, including potential internal injury and exposure to toxic substances depending on the type and quantity of metal present.

Regulatory authorities across West Africa are expected to heighten surveillance of rice imports from the affected supplier. Consumers and distributors are advised to verify the origin and batch information of parboiled rice products currently in distribution. This is a developing story.
