Healthcare providers should be aware of significant updates to RSV vaccination eligibility criteria affecting their patient populations. Free RSV vaccination programs now extend to adults aged 50 and older with chronic conditions, requiring clinicians to reassess which patients qualify for this protective intervention. Implementation of new risk assessment tools will help identify candidates who may benefit from vaccination.

Clinical evidence supporting these changes is substantial: trials show 83 percent effectiveness in preventing severe disease, and epidemiological data reveals elevated hospitalization risks in younger adults with comorbidities. Providers should counsel eligible patients about vaccination benefits, particularly those with heart disease, lung disease, or diabetes.

The expanded access model removes previous cost barriers, facilitating broader population protection. Healthcare systems are establishing new protocols to streamline patient identification and vaccination delivery. Read the full article on GMJ Newsroom.
