The World Health Organization’s Regional Office for Africa has selected seven mid-career women from Ghana, Liberia, Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Mozambique, and Nigeria for the third cohort of the Mwele Malecela Mentorship Programme. This strategic initiative addresses critical gender gaps in global health leadership while strengthening capacity for neglected tropical disease (NTD) elimination across the continent.
The selected participants bring diverse expertise spanning academia, field research, and programme implementation. From Dr. Akua Obeng Forson’s academic leadership at the University of Ghana to Hannah Berrian’s research fellowship in Liberia and Nelvina Mucato’s programme coordination in Mozambique, the cohort represents multidisciplinary approaches to NTD challenges. The two-year programme (2026-2028) prioritizes mentorship, capacity building, and networking opportunities designed to advance women into senior leadership roles within the global health sector.
