დენგეს ვირუსი პირველად აღმოაჩინეს აზიაში და აფრიკაში, მაგრამ დღეს ის გავრცელებულია მსოფლიოს მრავალ რეგიონში. სიმძიმე დენგე არის ამ ვირუსის ყველაზე საშიში ფორმა, რომელიც იწვევს სისხლდენას, ორგანოთა უკმარისობას და შოკს [1]. ამ მდგომარეობის დიაგნოსტიკა ხდება კლინიკური ნიშნების და ლაბორატორიული ანალიზების საფუძველზე. ხშირი შეცდომაა სიმძიმე დენგეს სიმპტომების სხვა დაავადებებთან აღრევა, როგორიცაა გრიპი ან მალარია. მნიშვნელოვანია, რომ სამედიცინო პერსონალმა იცოდეს, როგორ განასხვავოს ეს დაავადებები და დროულად დაიწყოს შესაბამისი მკურნალობა. საქართველოში, სადაც კლიმატური პირობები ხელსაყრელია ვირუსის გავრცელებისთვის, აუცილებელია მოსახლეობის ინფორმირება და ვირუსის პრევენციის ღონისძიებების გატარება.
