A striking finding from a new CDC workforce survey shows that only 1% of responding employees believe recent budget cuts have not affected the agency’s public health protection capabilities. This near-unanimous assessment from over 600 staff members represents a significant consensus about operational challenges within the nation’s premier health agency.

The 99% reporting reduced capacity indicates widespread concern that extends across multiple divisions and functional areas of the CDC. This data-driven perspective from internal staff provides concrete evidence of how fiscal constraints are translating into real operational limitations.

The survey results, analyzed and reviewed by GMJ’s editorial team, contribute essential quantitative data to discussions about federal health agency funding and infrastructure resilience during periods of evolving public health threats.
