🚨 Breaking Newsvia USGS Significant Earthquakes

A significant earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 struck southeast of the Loyalty Islands on July 13, 2026, at 14:45:49 UTC. The epicenter was located at coordinates 22.789°S, 171.520°E, with a depth of 10 kilometers (6.21 miles), according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The Loyalty Islands region, part of New Caledonia in the South Pacific, is situated in a seismically active zone. Earthquakes of this magnitude can cause moderate to significant damage to structures and infrastructure in populated areas. Preliminary assessments are underway to determine the extent of impact on nearby communities and any potential tsunami generation.

Regional authorities and emergency response teams are mobilizing to assess damage and provide assistance to affected populations. The USGS is continuing to monitor seismic activity in the region, and coastal areas are being evaluated for tsunami risk. Medical facilities in the region have been placed on alert for potential mass casualty situations. This is a developing story.
