What Clinicians Should Know: Three Evidence-Based Applications of PQQ Supplementation

Emerging clinical evidence identifies three distinct therapeutic applications for PQQ supplementation, each supported by specific dosing recommendations derived from human trials. For patients with chronic inflammatory conditions, PQQ at 5–10 mg daily reduces circulating inflammatory cytokines and C-reactive protein through mitochondrial-mediated pathways. Cognitive health optimization requires higher doses of 10–20 mg daily, with demonstrated improvements in memory and mental performance. Metabolic support, particularly for mitochondrial function and energy production, reaches optimal efficacy at approximately 20 mg daily. Notably, typical Western diets contain minimal PQQ, suggesting potential nutritional inadequacy for populations seeking these health benefits. The consistency of findings across independent human studies establishes a credible biological basis for supplementation. Clinicians should recognize that PQQ’s effects emerge at physiologically modest doses, making it a practical consideration for patients with metabolic, cognitive, or inflammatory health concerns.
