Protein Source Myth Debunked: Daily Intake Trumps Animal vs. Plant Distinction

A significant finding from four independent studies challenges a widespread nutrition belief: while animal protein produces a 47% higher muscle protein synthesis rate immediately after consumption, this acute advantage does not translate into superior long-term muscle growth. Research published in the Journal of Nutrition and related peer-reviewed sources demonstrates that daily muscle protein synthesis rates are virtually identical between omnivorous and plant-based diets when total daily protein intake is adequate at 1.2–1.6 g/kg body weight. Over a 10-week study period, both diet groups achieved identical muscle growth of 8.3%. These findings suggest that dietary dogma surrounding protein source may be less important than previously believed.
