One in Three Migraine Patients Experience Vestibular Symptoms—Gepants Offer New Hope

An estimated 38 percent of migraine patients experience vestibular symptoms, making vestibular migraine one of the most prevalent yet underrecognized migraine subtypes. This substantial prevalence underscores the clinical significance of identifying effective treatment options for patients whose symptoms extend beyond headache pain to include dizziness and balance disturbances.

A new study published in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery provides encouraging evidence that gepants—CGRP-targeting medications—represent a mechanistically sound treatment option for this population. By antagonizing the calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor, gepants address a fundamental driver of migraine pathophysiology while demonstrating robust tolerability in both oral and intranasal delivery formats. These findings suggest that targeted CGRP therapy may significantly improve quality of life for the millions of migraine patients experiencing vestibular symptoms.
