The XPRIZE Healthspan competition represents unprecedented funding for age reversal research, distributing $101 million across focused research categories through 2030. Cognitive function and muscle function each receive $20 million in prizes, while immune function restoration is allocated the same amount. Additional funding includes $14 million for milestone prizes recognizing incremental breakthroughs and $11 million for audacious goal achievements. This strategic allocation reflects scientific consensus that interventions targeting these three systems show the most promise for extending healthy lifespan. Dr. Jamie Justice, the competition’s scientific director, explains that teams must demonstrate measurable improvements in older adults within specific timeframes. The competition has attracted researchers worldwide exploring cellular reprogramming, metabolic dysfunction interventions, and combined therapeutic approaches that show significant potential in early trials.
