🚨 Breaking Newsvia GDACS Disaster Alerts

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake occurred in Indonesia on March 7, 2026, at 02:31 UTC, with a depth of approximately 121 kilometers. The Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS) estimates that approximately 720,000 people experienced Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) levels of IV or greater, indicating potentially damaging shaking.

The moderate-to-strong earthquake presents risks for structural damage, injuries, and potential disruption to healthcare and emergency services in affected regions. Early reports indicate the depth and magnitude are consistent with significant ground shaking across a wide affected area, though casualty figures remain preliminary at this time.

Indonesian authorities and international disaster response agencies are mobilizing assessment teams to evaluate damage and coordinate humanitarian assistance. Medical facilities in the affected zones are advised to activate emergency protocols. This is a developing story.
