Each metabolite operates as a pleiotropic regulator, controlling gene expression through epigenetic mechanisms and influencing immune cell differentiation, stem cell fate decisions, and malignant transformation. The dysregulation of these metabolites is now implicated in autoimmune disease, immunosuppression, and cancer progression.
Optimizing mitochondrial health directly enhances these metabolite-driven signalling pathways. Through targeted interventions—aerobic exercise, calorie restriction, and micronutrient supplementation—clinicians and individuals can support robust TCA cycle flux and maintain appropriate cellular signalling equilibrium across multiple physiological systems.
