A new comprehensive study combining animal experiments with patient record analysis has identified a concerning pattern: glucosamine supplementation appears associated with accelerated cognitive decline specifically in individuals with Alzheimer’s disease. Paradoxically, the supplement showed neutral to protective effects in healthy brain tissue, suggesting disease-specific interactions previously unrecognized.
The research mechanism remains under investigation, though scientists point to altered glucose metabolism in diseased neural tissue as a potential explanation.
