Women experience significantly greater physiological strain during heat exposure than men, yet current occupational safety guidelines fail to account for these sex-specific differences. Research demonstrates that women show 35% lower sweat gland activation and reduced skin blood flow response compared to men during equivalent heat stress, resulting in compromised heat dissipation capacity.

These physiological variations stem from multiple factors: women possess fewer active sweat glands per unit of skin surface area, with higher activation thresholds; hormonal fluctuations across the menstrual cycle alter thermoregulatory set points; and differences in body composition affect heat storage efficiency. As global temperatures rise and workplace heat exposure intensifies, occupational health authorities must develop gender-disaggregated safety standards based on robust physiological evidence rather than male-only baseline data.
