Renamed to reduce stigma
WHO renamed monkeypox to "mpox" in 2022 to avoid stigmatising associations and standardise nomenclature for the two clades.
Ring vaccination
Ring vaccination of contacts and contacts-of-contacts has been the primary strategy — more efficient than mass vaccination in localised outbreaks.

WHO
