Dexcom, Inc. has disclosed a significant security breach involving the theft of defective G7 glucose sensor lots that were designated for destruction. The company discovered the unauthorized removal of manufacturing rejects during routine quality and accounting reviews conducted in May 2026. These sensors had failed quality control standards and were never approved for patient use.

The FDA has issued a formal safety alert warning healthcare providers and patients about potentially compromised devices circulating in the market. Dexcom has initiated comprehensive reviews of its manufacturing and disposal processes to prevent similar incidents. The company is actively notifying potentially affected users and advising healthcare providers to verify device authenticity. Patients relying on continuous glucose monitoring should contact their healthcare providers to confirm the legitimacy of their current sensors and discuss any necessary precautions.
